How to Survive the Unbalanced State
Avoid Chi burnout, recover from Unbalanced safely, and punish opponents who overspend their Flow meter in Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game.
The Unbalanced state is Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game's harshest punishment—triggered when your Chi Gauge empties from Flow overspend. This guide teaches both prevention and recovery using the official Chi Gauge tutorial trailer, plus strategies for punishing opponents who enter Unbalanced.
Prevention First
The best Unbalanced strategy is never triggering it. Monitor your Chi constantly—both gauges are visible. Tap Flow Stance briefly rather than holding through entire pressure strings. Use directional Flow techniques selectively. Take neutral breaks to regenerate Chi. Read the Chi management guide for detailed conservation techniques.
Survival Tactics
If Unbalanced triggers, your options shrink dramatically. Jump to avoid ground Critical Throws temporarily. Backdash to create distance. Block what you can but accept chip rather than attempting Flow without Chi. Do not panic—Unbalanced ends after several seconds and Chi begins regenerating. The Unbalanced wiki page lists all penalties.
Punishing Unbalanced Opponents
When opponents enter Unbalanced, capitalize immediately. Dash in for Critical Throws with A+B. Launch combo strings into EX moves. If you have full Chakra, True Chakra Arts end the round instantly. Characters with fast throws like Sokka excel at Unbalanced punishment.
Training Drill
In Training Mode, set your Chi to low and practice defending without triggering Unbalanced. Then set the dummy to low Chi and practice Unbalanced punishes. Repeat until Chi awareness becomes automatic. This drill prepares you for the July beta where opponents will exploit Unbalanced constantly.
